software for tour operators i icon  Illusions Online embarks on exciting adventure with expedition tour specialist
March, 2012

Region's leading travel technology specialist to roll out complete online business solution for UAE-based Real Expeditions.

The region's leading travel technology expert, Illusions Online, has secured a deal with UAE-based global adventure tourism specialist, Real Expeditions.

The agreement will see Dubai-headquartered Illusions provide a complete online business solution for the expeditions firm that will encompass a B2C website, online marketing, plus a number of administrative functions.

It marks a new adventure for Illusions, which is adapting its highly-successful business model – providing customised solutions to tour operators and DMCs worldwide – to create a tailor-made solution for Real Expeditions; a highly-specialised travel company offering a wide range of expedition-led experiences worldwide, from wolf-hunting in Mongolia to survival training in the desert.

"We are an adventure tour specialist owned by trained expedition leaders who have no real knowledge of how to run a professional travel company," explained Real Expeditions co-founder and general manager Ron Steyers.

"We needed to find a company that could not only build our B2C website, but help us manage the very unique requirements of our business in terms of several sub-functions such as marketing, PR, HR and finance."

Steyers said Illusions was the only company that could offer Real Expeditions the "full package" based on its travel technology expertise and extensive industry knowledge and understanding.

"With Illusions there is no need to contract individual companies for separate tasks," he continued.

"It was not only their ability to provide the technology and a full package, but they listened to what we needed and were willing to be flexible and adapt to our needs.

"With Illusions on board, Real Expeditions management will be able to concentrate on what it does best - tour guiding, organising expeditions and exploring new destinations - instead of having to sit in an office behind a desk and manage a team and a business."

Steyers said one of the key tasks at hand would be to overhaul Real Expeditions' existing consumer-facing website – www.real-expeditions.com – to include a number of functions.

"Although this is not a conventional travel website where as a customer you book a package, pay for it and off you go, we do want to automate as much as we can to make the booking process easy," he explained.

"For example, we would like customers to be able to find all the information they require about our expeditions online and book and pay a deposit to secure their place using the website."

He said the website, which will be "work in progress", should be "as interactive as possible" to allow customers to communicate with the Real Expeditions team and fellow explorers, through emails, blogs and social media.

It will also feature videos, online tutorials instructing customers on how to prepare for their adventure, plus automate administrative functions such as disclaimer forms, medical insurance and similar documents.

Illusions' job will also include helping Real Expeditions promote its brand and product through the website and other forms of online communication.

Illusions Online's CEO Faisal Memon said he was keen to take on this challenge, which he hoped would set new standards for highly-specialised travel industry players based in the Middle East market.

"Our ability to roll out this project, which not only involves adapting and installing our cutting-edge travel technology but importantly, using our 12 years of industry know-how to create a unique online business solution for Real Expeditions, makes us stand out from the crowd," he said.

"By signing this deal with Real Expeditions we have proven what few competing companies globally can; that we are a one-stop-shop for travel firms requiring a suite of products and services suited to their own individual requirements.

"In this day and age, it is not enough to offer one rigid, inflexible product or service. To survive and lead in their field, companies such as Illusions must raise the bar and adapt to the needs of their clients."

Memon said Illusions' business solutions package for Real Expeditions would ensure the adventure specialist stayed ahead of the competition.

Steyers agreed, adding: "Outsourcing has always been an effective way for companies to adopt the most efficient business solutions without expanding beyond their capabilities.

"Products such as those offered by Illusions are the best way to solve the many tasks and daily challenges involved in running a company without the logistics and costs of job advertisements, hiring, HR problems and staff management."

software for tour operators i icon Illusions Online appoints sales management team in Asia
December, 2011

General manager Jessica Wong and sales manager Dalvin Sidhu come on board as Dubai-based travel technology provider maps out mega expansion plans in the region.

Leading travel technology provider Illusions Online has made three key management appointments in Asia for the first time as the company prepares to rapidly expand across the continent.

The Dubai-based firm, which provides enterprise solutions for tour operators and DMCs worldwide, has appointed DMC expert Jessica Wong as General Manager Asia, based in Penang, Malaysia and experienced travel sales and marketing professional Dalvin Sidhu as sales manager, based in Singapore as well as a Sales Manager in Jakarta.

Both Wong and Sidhu will be responsible for establishing Illusions' first ever permanent operations in Asia, which will include setting up one head office inKuala Lumpur, Malaysiaas well as satellite sales teams in Thailand, Indonesia and China.

The Thailand team will be responsible for the Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar markets; the Malaysia, Jakarta   Singapore team will look after Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines; and the two teams in China will be based in Beijing and Shanghai, responsible for generating sales in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Illusions' aggressive expansion in Asia comes hot off the heels of the company making history by signing a trio of landmark deals with three of the region's leading Destination Management Companies (DMCs) – Go Vacation Thailand, Go Vacation Indonesia and Go Vacation Sri Lanka.

The partnership will see Illusions automate and integrate every aspect of their businesses into one centralised online system. In addition, XML capability will allow Go Vacation's client systems to connect to the Illusions system for product pricing, availability and making bookings.

"We are alreadymaking waves in Asia having done several road trips and meeting customers to discuss their technology requirements face-to-face," said Illusions Online CEO Faisal Memon.

"We are now in discussion with several more tour operators and DMCs across the region and we are confident of having a very strong portfolio of clients in Asia moving forward. What we have seen is that other technology companies cannot offer the level of automation that the travel companies really require nor are they able to innovate and adapt with the changes in the market trends. We like to see ourselves as not just another software company but a key strategic technology partner for our clients – so they can focus on what they are good at, which is running their travel business while we take care of all their technology needs".

Helping to make Memon's vision realised in this short time frame are Wong and Sidhu whose combined experience make for a powerful proposition when dealing in the competitive Asian marketplace.

Malaysian-born Wong has a strong DMC background of 17 years, having worked her way up through the ranks, starting out as receptionist for a DMC in Ipoh to her most recent position as general manager, sales and marketing for Malaysia's Tour & Incentive (T&I).

She has also worked for Malaysia-based travel firms such as Leisure Holidays, Tour East, Pacific World Malaysia and Hotelbeds. Her strengths are in management, sales and marketing and dealing with large international tour operators.

Wong is currently in the process of appointing sales managers in Thailand and Malaysia and down the line, will appoint a permanent help desk and training executive to be based at Illusions' Asia headquarters.

She said that based on her vast knowledge of DMC operations in Asia, most of which still relied on manual operations as opposed to sophisticated online automated systems, Illusions had a bright future in the region.

"There are very few reputable technology companies offering DMCs and tour operators the support they require and Illusions really does stand out from the crowd in this respect," Wong explained.

"The Illusions system is more than 95 percent automated whereas its competitors are around 65 percent automated at best; Illusions provides the most fluid system by far and is a refreshing alternative to what's on the market at present.

"It is therefore our mission to become the number one player in Asia in a short time frame and we are already on track to achieve this status in a market where there are literally thousands of DMCs and tour operators that need our help to take them into the 21st century."

Wong added that Illusions was on track to sign new deals in Asia by the end of the year. Her strategy for growth, she said, was to raise awareness through one-to-one meetings with key decision makers and attendance at important trade shows such as World Travel Market and ITB Berlin. Illusions had a "very big" presence planned at the latter, she revealed.

Aiding Wong is Singapore-born Sidhu, a multi-lingual professional who boasts a "strong booking engine background" and "vast travel industry experience" in Asia, including work placements in China.

He has worked for a diverse range of travel-related companies in the region including Avis Singapore where as sales and inbound manager he was responsible for partnerships, pricing, customer service, value proposition implementation, reservations and channel management training plus B2B acquisitions and most recently at Bangkok-based online travel trade publishing specialist, Travel Daily Media, where as commercial director he was responsible for website management including product content Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM), as well as partnerships and distribution in Asia Pacific.

Sidhu said DMCs and tour operators in Asia were still "very manual" and in desperate need of online automated solutions that made life easier for their businesses.

"My job is to show them that investing in technology will help them grow and expand their company and that rather than being a supplier to them, Illusions is a partner that can help them to develop their business."

Sidhu said he was attracted to the role with Illusions because it was a company that didn't just sell one product, but "adapted and evolved", creating solutions that were customised to the needs of both the market and individual clients.

"I am very happy with the progress we have made this year in Asia in terms of creating a brand-awareness of our company and our platform. Jessica and Dalvin are the right team to take this forward to the marketplace and we will be growing the team significantly to cover the key countries withinAsia over the next few months", Memon concluded.

Leading travel technology provider signs the last of three landmark agreements to deliver a complete end-to-end solution for Go Vacation's operations across Asia – in Thailand, Indonesia and now, Sri Lanka

Travel technology specialist Illusions Online has made history by signing a trio of landmark deals with Asia's three leading Destination Management Companies (DMCs).

The Dubai-based firm, which provides cutting-edge enterprise solutions for tour operators and DMCs worldwide, has finalised an agreement with Go Vacation Sri Lanka – a move that will firmly cement Illusions Onlines' growing stronghold in the Asian travel market.

The Sri Lanka deal marks the last of three contracts secured with Go Vacation's operations in Asia. Go Vacation Thailand and Go Vacation Indonesia signed up to the Illusions system earlier this year.

Illusions Onlines' success in scoring such significant accounts further vindicates why the company was recognised as one of the world's fastest growing 50 companies in August this year when it picked up the prestigious Fast 50 award – an initiative by The New Europe magazine based on the votes of some of the world's top directors, CEOs and travel industry notables.

Erkan Tuncaakar, general manager at Go Vacation Sri Lanka, a subsidiary of the second largest tour operator in Germany, The REWE Group, said it "made perfect sense" for all three of Go Vacation's Asian operations to run the Illusions system.

"There is nothing easier than for us to have the same system as Go Vacation Thailand and Go Vacation Indonesia and to streamline the company once and for all," he said.

Team at GoVacation Sri Lanka

"Also, our tour operator partners in Europe will want to work with the same system or they will find it difficult to work in three different ways."

Go Vacation Sri Lanka, which was established 10 months ago in recognition of the island nation's growing tourism industry, provides the full range of passenger handling services and inbound package tour arrangements for international tour operators and their large networks of retail agents. Its head office is in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo.

Illusions has started to implement the DMC's system that will automate and integrate every aspect of its business including product management, hotel/services contracting, packages and back-to-back series, client profiles and tariff rules, a booking engine, client and supplier documentation, accounts receivables and accounts payables, CRM, logistics and planning modules, as well as Internet booking engines for clients to purchase the entire product range online.

Also included is the XML capability to allow Go Vacation's client systems to connect to the Illusions system for product pricing, availability and making bookings.

All these functions are integrated into one centralised online system, not only for Go Vacation Sri Lanka, but for Go Vacation Indonesia and Go Vacation Thailand too.

Tuncaakar said the Illusions product would make Go Vacation Sri Lanka a "pioneer" in a travel market devoid of online solutions.

"Go Vacation Sri Lanka, like other DMCs in the country, does not have an automated system at the moment; everything is done manually so we receive a reservation by email and then it is processed by our staff using email and fax," he said.

"When Illusions is implemented, we will be the only DMC in Sri Lanka to have such a system."

In addition to driving huge time and cost efficiencies, Tuncaakar said automating the booking process would remove "the human risk factor".

"It also makes life so much easier for our tour operator partners, providing them with price, availability and reservations confirmed almost instantly, twenty-four seven," he added.

Providing this type of service to tour operators would secure loyalty, he said "because we will give them no reason to shop around and look for other people to work with".

Tuncaakar said it was too early to estimate by how much the Illusions system would boost the bottom line because Go Vacation Sri Lanka was a relatively new company. However, he revealed that it would allow the DMC to work with more "non REWE Group tour operators", hence increasing opportunities to expand the business.

Illusions Online CEO Faisal Memon said signing deals with all three of Go Vacation's operations in Asia was a real "triumph" and would help the technology company achieve its goal of becoming a "key player" in the vast Asian travel market.

He stressed that one of the key reasons Go Vacation had partnered with Illusions was that unlike other solutions on the market, his product could be rolled out in a relatively short timeframe, yet would still provide the ultimate in automation for its businesses.

"Go Vacation Thailand's system was implemented in record time – just under three months - and we have nearly finished the set up and staff training process at Go Vacation Indonesia's three offices. We hope to have Go Vacation Sri Lanka's system up-and-running by the end of the year," said Memon.

"There is a lot of technology on the market but for companies who want to build their own tailored systems, the implementation of these solutions takes between one or two years, which in this day and age is far too long.

"Having worked with tour operators and DMCs for more than a decade, we have developed a core product that is pretty much 'out of the box' and meets the needs of most, although we still customise our solutions to meet individual requirements. But most importantly we implement our solutions quickly - that's Illusions' USP."

Memon said the customisation of Go Vacation's system included a seamless interface with Microsoft Navision to have real-time data transfer of all accounting transactions between Illusions and MS Navision, as well as the facility to automatically upload bookings from some of Go Vacation's top clients.

An added bonus for Go Vacation, he said, was that it would benefit from Illusions Online's new World Travel eXchange (iWTX).

This allows all Illusions customers, which now includes travel agents, to access and sell one another's content.

"We have set up a distribution agreement with Illusions clients so they can share product rates, inventory and content and we are the conduit," explained Memon.

"So our clients all over the world will be able to access and sell Go Vacation's products and pricing in real time."

Tuncaakar said: "I will be interested to see how iWTX works; it would be great to get direct access to new partners with an interest in Sri Lanka, all on the same system as us."

software for tour operators i icon Illusions Online secures deal with major Indonesian DMC
September, 2011

From left: Horst Pezetta (Product Director-Go Vacation Indonesia) & Faisal Memon (Founder & CEO-Illusions Online)
Leading travel technology provider to deliver a complete end-to-end solution for Go Vacation Indonesia's operations in Bali, Java and Lombok

Illusions Online has signed a deal with yet another highly influential Asian Destination Management Company (DMC), Go Vacation Indonesia.

The Dubai-based firm, which provides enterprise solutions for tour operators and DMCs worldwide, will deliver an end-to-end centralised technology solution for the wholesaler - a move that will further cement Illusions Online's growing stronghold in the Asian market.

In August 2011, Illusions Online was recognized as one of the world's fastest growing 50 companies by winning the Fast 50 award – an initiative by The New Europe magazine, which is based on the votes of some of the world's top directors, CEOs and travel industry notables.

The deal with Go Vacation Indonesia comes hot off the heels of the landmark deal Illusions signed earlier this year with Go Vacation Thailand. The agreement made provision for the system to eventually integrate all of the company's Asian operations.

Horst Pezetta, product director at Go Vacation Indonesia, which is part of the third largest tour operator in Germany, The REWE Group, said he felt "confident from the very beginning" of the DMC's relationship with Illusions that the system was right for the company.

"As soon as we got to know Illusions CEO Faisal Memon we were quite fascinated by the fact that someone with an understanding of IT could also understand how the travel industry works," he explained.

"As we received more information about Illusions, we became even more confident the system could help us achieve our key goals of expanding our business and providing better services to our existing customers and tour operator partners, as well as reducing labour costs and becoming more efficient."

Pezetta said he was sceptical of many IT companies and the promises they made but like his colleague, Christoph Mueller, managing director of Go Vacation Thailand, he was willing to make the "substantial investment" in the Illusions product because it was the most suitable, effective and reliable technology solution on the market.

In addition, Pezetta and Mueller had witnessed how their sister company, US DMC New World Travel, had successfully implemented the Illusions systems and reaped the benefits of doing so; it therefore "made sense" for them to follow suit.

Go Vacation Indonesia provides the full range of passenger handling services and inbound package tour arrangements for international tour operators and their large networks of retail agents. It has three offices – in Bali, Java and Lombok - employs 140 staff and serves more than 50,000 travellers annually.

Illusions is currently implementing the DMC's system that will automate and integrate every aspect of its business including product management, hotel/services contracting, packages and back-to-back series, client profiles and tariff rules, a booking engine, client and supplier documentation, accounts receivables and accounts payables, CRM, logistics and planning modules, as well as Internet booking engines for clients to purchase the entire product range online.

Also included is the XML capability to allow Go Vacation's client systems to connect to the Illusions system for product pricing, availability and making bookings.

All these functions are integrated into one centralised online system, not only for Go Vacation Indonesia, but for Go Vacation Thailand too.

"As a result, we will not only be able to serve our tour operators more quickly, but they will be able to serve their travel agents faster too," said Pezetta. "And it no longer matters that we are working across so many time zones because all rates and availability are in real time.

"It's much more efficient and it benefits our tour operator partners as much as it benefits us. When you provide such a good service, it makes it very difficult for your clients to go elsewhere."

Pezetta said the Illusions system would help grow the DMC's business by at least 10% in the first year after implementation and between 15-20% in the second year.

Illusions Online CEO Faisal Memon said the Go Vacation account was real "coup" for the travel technology firm and that with the system for the DMC's Thailand operations now successfully up and running, it paved the way for a fast roll out in Indonesia.

He stressed that one of the key reasons Go Vacation had partnered with his firm was that unlike other solutions on the market, the Illusions product would go live in a relatively short timeframe, before the beginning of the firm's peak winter season.

"There is a lot of technology on the market but for companies who want to build their own systems, the implementation of these solutions takes forever – you are looking at one or two years to try to make it work," Memon explained.

"In today's world, that timeframe is far too long. Tour operators need a system implemented quickly and at Illusions that's our USP.

"Having worked with tour operators and DMCs for more than a decade, we have developed a core product that is pretty much 'out of the box' and meets the needs of most.

"Of course, we customise this according to individual requirements, but we got Go Vacation Thailand's system up and running in less than three months, which was a huge task. We are looking at a similar timeframe for Indonesia."

Memon said the customisation of Go Vacation's system included a seamless interface with Microsoft Navision to have real-time data transfer of all accounting transactions between Illusions and MS Navision, as well as the facility to automatically upload bookings from some of Go Vacation's top clients.

Another perk for Go Vacation, he said, was that it would benefit from Illusions Online's new World Travel eXchange (iWTX) system.

Pezetta said the iWTX system was an "added bonus" for Go Vacation Indonesia.

"It is a brand new distribution channel for us and we are eager to see how much extra business this will generate," he said.

"The Ilusions system will also prove essential if our plans to expand the business with airlines goes ahead; we are hoping to sign a deal with a major airline soon that will see us facilitate hotel bookings and other ground arrangements for their passengers," Pezetta added.

software for tour operators i icon Illusions Online recognized as the world's fastest growing 50 companies by winning the Fast 50 award
August, 2011

Travel technology provider ranks as one of the world's fastest growing 50 companies in prestigious listing having won the highest number of votes from global CEOs, directors and travel industry heavyweights

Leading travel technology provider Illusions Online has ranked as one of the world's fastest growing 50 companies in a prestigious listing recognising organisations that are leaders in their field.

The Dubai-based firm has been declared a 'Fast 50' award winner (www.fast50.com) – an initiative by The New Europe magazine, which is based on the votes of some of the world's top directors, CEOs and travel industry notables.

Within the technology category, Illusions was one of three-shortlisted companies announced back in March and of the 4,352 votes cast, the firm received the most votes at 2,901, marking one of the highest majority margins on Fast 50's records.

An e-voting card was sent to more than 75,000 CEOs and company directors worldwide, the entire The New Europe magazine database (both subscribers and its online audience), as well as Illusions' contacts in the UAE and North America and 15,000 company directors and buyers of travel technology at Destination Management Companies and tour operators.

The nominations were followed up by The New Europe's dedicated research team and judged by an independent panel, which comprised current and former FTSE 100 CEOs, a well-documented thought leader and author from a world-renowned business school, the chairman of one of Europe's largest public sector organisations plus for the technology category, a specially-commissioned travel technology expert.

In an interview with The New Europe, which highlighted the success of Illusions Online and its pioneering CEO, Faisal Memon, the company was described as leading the way in "providing a multi-user platform that makes the interaction between the traveller and the world beyond seamless, beyond expectation".

The article praised Illusions for bringing together a "bewildering array of variables" under one platform and encompassing every part of the supply chain.

"People talk about the cloud, we've been on the cloud for years, and it allows us to distribute our platform to the different segments within the travel industry" Memon told The New Europe.

The article also recognised Illusions' market foresight by introducing the Illusions World Travel eXchange (iWTX) solution, which allows Illusions users to share content and products and generate extra business as a result.

"The idea is to be able to connect through our exchange where we have all of our customers' products (inventory) available in one marketplace; it allows them to cross-sell to each other and adds another dimension to the distribution," said Memon. "We are moving on from being another software provider to becoming a distribution partner."

Former winners of the Fast 50 awards have included prestigious organisations like Research In Motion, the company behind the BlackBerry solution, Autodesk, Agility, WWF and Diners Club International. In the travel category, Aloft Abu Dhabi, Movenpick Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Singapore and Quintessentially are some of the big names that have received awards in the past. These are all industry leaders that have reached the very highest levels of achievement in their respective fields, and are companies who are driving their respective industries forward.

This is not the first time Illusions has been recognised for its expertise in the travel technology field having won the Middle East's 'Leading Travel Technology Provider' at the World Travel Awards in both 2009 and 2010 and the coveted 'World's Leading Travel Technology Provider' at the World Travel Awards 2009.

This year is shaping up to be another highly successful year for Illusions, which has already signed deals with some of Asia's largest Destination Management Companies (DMCs) as well as companies in the Middle East.

software for tour operators i icon Illusions Online in triple whammy agency deal first
June, 2011

Region's leading travel technology provider whets travel agents' appetites with new low-cost 'off-the-shelf' solution: Illusions OnDemand (OD).

Three trailblazing GCC travel agents have been the first to sign up to a brand new first-of-its-kind technology solution by Illusions Online.

Kuwait's Rezervations International and Kapico Travels and Tours and Qatar's Falcon Travel have all penned agreements with the Dubai-based travel technology company for its revolutionary Illusions OnDemand (OD) product.

The solutions they have selected are scaled-down affordable 'off-the-shelf' versions of Illusions Online's award-winning core product - customised systems for tour operators and Destination Management Companies (DMCs).

In fact, the 'Illusions OnDemand 'Standard' edition Falcon Travel has opted for is being implemented totally free of charge while the 'Professional' edition Rezervations International and Kapico have selected is relatively low cost compared to other systems on the market.

OD features are abundant and for the Standard version include the automation and integration online of client management (trade and consumer); tariff and mark-up management; employee management; currency management; a hotel booking engine; client documentation; accounts; finance and management reports; and the option for an Internet booking engine for customers.

Additional features of the Professional version span supplier management; the inclusion of the agent/operator's own hotel and supplier contracts; allocation/inventory management; commission rules; tax management; content management; multi-language content support; and much more.

But the pièce de résistance is that all agents, regardless of the edition they have selected, will get access to the brand new Illusions Online World Travel eXchange (iWTX) system.

The brainchild of Illusions Online CEO Faisal Memon, iWTX allows all Illusions users – both travel agents and tour operators – to access and sell one another's products and services in real time.

"We have set up a distribution agreement with our clients so they can share product rates, inventory and content, and we are the conduit," explained Memon.

"So if you are an agent in the Middle East you can access all the products provided by clients such as New World Travel in the US, Sunset Faraway Holidays in the UK, Al Rais in the UAE and Go Vacation in Thailand."

All rates are updated automatically by the Illusions system of each client taking exchange rates and mark-ups into account in real time.

Illusions is providing iWTX free-of-charge to all clients adding a "minute mark-up" as facilitator but resulting in rates that are highly competitive.

"We are acting as a wholesaler in the 21st Century sense," said Memon.

"There are no costs involved so our mark-ups are the bare minimum making us cheaper than most, if not all wholesalers out there."

Illusions Online's OnDemand solutions also have the edge on other products in that the iWTX system eliminates the need to jump onto several different wholesaler systems when booking ground arrangements.

It automates front- mid- and back-office solutions by allowing agents to be able to load their own products and contracts; define their customer-base and set-up flexible mark-up rules depending on the client to whom they are selling; and manage all their bookings, documentation, accounts receivables and payables. There is also a plethora of out-of-the-box reporting tools available.

"So it's very different to most wholesaler systems and software technology out there which offers a booking engine platform only," said Memon.

"And because Illusions OnDemand sits on a cloud, this information is available from anywhere in the world by just having access to a browser and Internet connection."

He added: "Preferential rates with hotels or suppliers that agents have negotiated themselves can also be integrated and the bookings can be done all on one system instead of jumping around to book with different wholesalers."

The first three agents to sign up to Illusions have not only been impressed by the functionality of the solution offered, but also with just how quickly it will be rolled out.

All three first met with Illusions either during or just after last month's Arabian Travel Market and are expecting their system to be up-and-running by mid-June at the latest.

Khaled Al Shammari, the general manager at Kuwait-based wholesaler Rezervations International, said: "We chose Illusions because it has a good reputation for providing a technologically-advanced and reliable solution plus it will be implemented very quickly.

"With other companies it can take months, if not years, to go live but with Illusions we will go from zero to testing to live in just under three weeks!"

Al Shammari also praised the Illusions iWTX concept, which he said would prove invaluable now that the busy summer booking season was well underway.

"Illusions has saved my life with this World Travel eXchange idea," he said.

"I already get good rates from my suppliers, but this will give me more options, better availability and rates and drastically reduce transaction times."

Joseph Mathew, the manager of Doha-based Falcon Travel, said his primary goal was to automate the company's leisure travel services.

"We are a boutique travel agency moving to become a DMC and starting inbound operations to Qatar so we need Illusions to take our product online," he said.

"The idea is to create a platform for our customers to go online and book."

Mathew said Falcon Travel was "very confident" in the Illusions product which provided "exactly what the company wanted".

Kuwait's Kapico Travels and Tours selected Illusions to help the travel agency keep up with market booking trends.

General Manager, Hassan Bilgrami explained: "The younger generation are increasingly using their iPhones to book travel and are frequently coming into our agency already logging into Expedia and asking us to match rates.

"I needed the technology to go online with my own website to see if I can capture this segment, which is growing rapidly.

"I looked at several technology companies but after meeting with Illusions at Arabian Travel Market I found it was a very organised company. It did a very good follow up and offered good training and the system will be up-and-running soon, which I will trial for six months."

He applauded Illusions for the quick roll out of the solution and concurred with Al Shammari that speed was of the essence given the need to get access to good content and rates for the summer 2011 booking season.

software for tour operators i icon Illusions Online scores mega deal with influential Asian DMC
May, 2011

Leading travel technology provider to deliver a complete end-to-end solution for Go Vacation Thailand following landmark agreement signed last week.

Illusions Online has secured a significant deal with one of Asia's largest Destination Management Companies (DMCs), Go Vacation Thailand.

The Dubai-based firm, which provides enterprise solutions for tour operators and DMCs worldwide, will deliver an end-to-end centralised technology solution for the operator, in a move that will put Illusions firmly on the Asian map.

Once implemented, the technology will be rolled out to Go Vacation's subsidiaries in Indonesia and Sri Lanka in 2012.

Christoph Mueller, managing director of Go Vacation Thailand, which is part of the third largest tour operator in Germany, The REWE Group, said the DMC had made a "substantial investment" in the Illusions product because it was the most suitable, effective and reliable technology solution on the market.

"We had a look at a few different products and Illusions was the one in which we had the most confidence," explained Mueller.

"We have a sister company from the group, which is also a very large DMC based in the US called New World Travel and it has been using Illusions successfully for the past year-and-a-half so it makes sense for us to use it too."

Go Vacation boasts offices in all major tourist destinations in Thailand. It serves around 200,000 clients annually and has DMC operations in other parts of Asia. "The first step is to implement the complete Illusions 120 user licence system in Thailand and then by May next year, we are looking to roll this out to the offices in Indonesia and Sri Lanka where further users will be added to the system," said Mueller. Illusions has already delivered the Go Vacation system that will automate and integrate every aspect of its business including product management, hotel/services contracting, packages and back-to-back series, client profiles and tariff rules, a booking engine, client and supplier documentation, accounts receivables and accounts payables, CRM, logistics and planning modules, as well as Internet booking engines for clients to purchase the entire product range online.

Also included is the XML capability to allow Go Vacation's client systems to connect to the Illusions system for product pricing, availability and making bookings.

All these functions are integrated into one online system.

The solution will replace the five separate systems currently in use, according to Illusions Online CEO Faisal Memon, who said the Go Vacation account was a "big deal" for the travel technology firm and was won on the back of "excellent feedback" from its sister firm New World Travel.

"The New World system has been up and running for more than 18 months and they are very happy with it – the staff there think it's great and back it 100 percent so that was half the battle won when negotiating with Go Vacation," he said.

Memon said another key reason Go Vacation had partnered with his firm was that unlike other solutions on the market, the Illusions product would go live in a relatively short timeframe, before the beginning of the firm's peak winter season.

"There is a lot of technology on the market but for companies who want to build their own systems, the implementation of these solutions takes forever – you are looking at one or two years to try to make it work," he explained.

"In today's world, that timeframe is far too long. Tour operators need a system implemented quickly and at Illusions that's our USP.

"Having worked with tour operators and DMCs for more than a decade, we have developed a core product that is pretty much 'out of the box' and meets the needs of most.

"Of course, we customise this according to individual requirements, but we are talking about having Go Vacation's system up and running in less than three months, which given the size of the business is a huge task."

Memon said the customisation included a seamless interface with Microsoft Navision to have real-time data transfer of all accounting transactions between Illusions and MS Navision, as well as the facility to automatically upload bookings from some of Go Vacation's top clients.

Another added bonus for Go Vacation, he said, was that it would benefit from Illusions Online's new World Travel eXchange (iWTX) system.

Go Vacation's system is now being implemented and staff are undergoing full training by Illusions specialists so they can start setting up the solution.

software for tour operators i icon Illusions bags Lawand Tourism account
December, 2009

Dubai-based solutions firm creates unique identity for Aussie inbound specialist.
Illusions Online has signed a deal with Australian inbound tour operator Lawand Tourism, which will see the Dubai based technology specialist provide the travel firm with a complete seamless front and back-office system.

The booking engine Illusions has created for Lawand, an operator that has its own permanent regional marketing and support office in Dubai and a marketing liaison office in Riyadh, has its own “unique identity” according to Illusions Online CEO Faisal Memon.

“There are so many DMCs using Illusions that we need to make sure that each solution we provide is different,” he explained. “What we have done is create a unique identity [for Lawand] in terms of the colours, the themes and the brand. We have done something similar for [UAE DMC) SNTTA.” Memon continued: “We are taking the systems of these operators to the next level with XML.”

He explained that this involved seamlessly linking DMCs to their clients so that all booking systems were in sync through interfacing. Lawand Tourism’s solution, he added, also included crucial elements such as product management and pricing, in addition to the booking tools.
“They have also gone for B2C, as well as B2B solutions,” Memon said.

The roll out of the Illusions system will be completed in phases, starting with the back office system to include product loading that is based in Bangalore, India. Once up-and-running, it will be pitched to individual agents within the Gulf who wish to interface their booking systems with Lawand.

In other Illusions news, the firm won the coveted World’s Leading Travel Technology Provider accolade at the World Travel Awards in London on November 8.
Memon said he wasn’t surprised to win the award, which is usually given to one of the four GDS providers. “The GDS aren’t doing anything new at the moment and there is no one else,” he said.
The firm has also revealed that Al Rais Travel has finally gone live with its GTA interface so all of the wholesaler’s inventory is now available to Al Rais travel consultants.

software for tour operators i icon Get your head in the clouds
14th November, 2009

Cloud computing – using internet-based applications, rather than investing in software that is hosted on your local PC - is the way forward for travel agents, according to Faisal Memon, CEO of Dubai-based Travel Technology provider Illusions Online.

“Cloud computing means applications, hardware and software traditionally used by travel agents can be avoided, so all the work is done over the internet and agents pay only for resources that they use,” said Memon.

“Cloud computing is not a new idea in the global sense, but it is not as widely recognised in some sectors of the developing travel industry regionally.” It can be as simple as using web-based email or calendaring systems, but can also include more complex CRM and bookings software.

Memon said cloud computing was particularly useful for the travel industry, because of its security features and automatic online updates, which can cut down on the expense of upgrading systems.

“Travel technology, because it works on a pay-as-you-book basis, can work out cheaper for companies during the financial crisis; it will be perceived as the way forward and this is something that we are closely observing nowadays,” he said.

The system will allow users to give immediate answers to clients as it works in real time offering instant rates and confirmation. It will also ensure maximisation of the available room allocation. tour operator software illusions news page i icon  Illusions New Recruits
Dubai, UAE, 1 July 2009

With such speedy expansion and the drive to keep winning those awards, comes a hardworking, dedicated team, storming ahead in the quest to stay ahead of the game. Meet the new recruits who are helping make Illusions Online a reality…

 Lisa Shortland
If anyone has a greater passion for travel technology, we haven’t found her yet. Lisa started her career in the travel industry over 18 years ago as a reservations agent for one of Australia's largest wholesalers, Qantas Holidays, and quickly realized where her future lay.

After 7 years in wholesale reservations and operations, Lisa was instrumental in delivering one of the first online B2B booking engines in Australia. With 11 years at Qantas Holidays to her name, she continued up the travel ladder with project roles at Australian airline consolidator, Concorde International and the Belgian Software provider, ICSAT.

In 2003, Lisa joined Flight Centre International and implemented the Travellusions product for the wholesale division, Infinity Holidays, becoming an expert on giving each business maximum return on investment. She comes to Illusions having managed several other large-scale projects at Flight Centre.

Lisa moved to Dubai in 2008 and continues to scratch her itchy feet by working and traveling abroad, and keeping up with every happening in the world of travel technology.

 John Flower
As experienced as John is on the front line, he’s also honed plenty of skills in the back office, having fuelled his love of globe-trotting as a retail travel consultant in the suburbs of Melbourne Australia. A family man at heart, John lives in Dubai with his wife and two daughters, who happen to be the only people who let him sing in front of them. John confesses: “I might have been born a Welsh man, but I can’t sing a note!”

Now Business Development Manager for Illusions Online, John brings essential hands-on experience to the company, thanks to a base in the world of wholesaling, as a destination specialist and in the area of business development with tour companies, including the prestigious Emirates airlines.

His first love is product management and John is ever active in his mission to gain a foothold in the industry, utilizing the amazing advances in travel technology available today. When he’s not trekking, flicking through the pages of his beloved history books and acting as a true asset to Illusions, John remains hard at work on his singing voice…

 Maheen Mohamed
Maheen flew in from Bombay and first set foot in Dubai in 1979. Needless to say, she’s seen more than a few changes in her time. Varied work included time at both a construction and a shipping company, before she planted roots at Emirates in 1986 as Sales Co-coordinator for DNATA. A stint at Emirates Holidays quickly saw Maheen become the Tours Sales Manager UAE for the Destination & Leisure Management Division.

In 2002, Maheen was instrumental in setting up the Groups, Promotions & Incentives Division, which saw her life become a jet-setting frenzy. In managing all aspects of group corporate/business travel requirements for an exhaustive list of clients, no destination in the Emirates network was left untouched! In demonstrating the most exciting programs for eager clients, Maheen’s work was never done – they always came back for more.

After a 9 month (well deserved) break, Maheen joined Illusions as our highly valued and ever-smiling Business Development Manager. When she’s not in our office, she’s cooking, which she finds hugely therapeutic, delving into puzzles and hanging with her husband and two children.

 Mini Nimkar
Mini by name, huge job responsibilities by nature! With over 28 years of leadership and experience in operations, Mini joined Illusions in May 2008 as Training Manager, and is now responsible for business development in the GCC, the Indian Subcontinent, the Indian Ocean and Africa. Phew. Luckily, she still has time for her dog, Bandit, who’s the main joy in her life here in Dubai.

Mini’s diverse background includes a wealth of experience in Tour operations, HR, Administration and educational institutions. She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and Tourism from the University of Bombay, so comes to Illusions well accustomed to life in another culture and the demands of the global travel industry.

When Mimi’s not hard at work at the wheel of Illusions, she can often be found snuggling up with a book, or busying herself with her vast collection of coins and jewelry

tour operator software illusions news page i icon  ATN Interview with John Flower
Dubai, UAE, 22 June 2009

New Illusions business development manager John Flower explains why he believes an investment in technology will be the catalyst for a more professional travel trade

ATN: What is your travel trade background?
I’ve been in the industry 17 years. I started my career in 1993 with STA Travel in Australia. I moved to Dubai four years ago and have worked with Emirates, Dnata and Alpha Holidays.

ATN: What are your responsibilities in your new role?
Increasing the distribution and awareness of Illusions technical solutions and concentrating on getting them out into the marketplace.

ATN: How do you intend to do this?
We’ve territorialised the globe and we’re trying to get products out to DMCs and wholesalers around the world through trade fairs, direct marketing and utilising my existing contacts.

ATN: Are agencies in this region open to change?
I think a lot of agencies are starting to realise if they don’t invest in technology they’ll be left behind and there’s a huge push at the moment within a number of agencies. They’re reviewing their technology and it’s quite surprising to see that some of the larger travel agencies don’t have up-to-date solutions.

ATN: What are the challenges involved?
The biggest challenge is getting out there and becoming familiar with the expectations of the industry.

ATN: Is now the right time for agents to invest?
This is a time when companies are looking at business and realising they have to make changes to make money. If that involves adopting new technology, then so be it. I think this is the perfect opportunity to invest. Technology won’t make staff work harder; it’ll make them work smarter.

ATN: Does more technology mean less staff?
Maybe in the long run, but the reality is not to cut staff but to grow distribution, allowing you to employ people more readily. If the agent is able to spend less time processing they can improve their product knowledge.
I believe Technology is the catalyst for a more professional trade.

ATN: What if the regional industry fails to adopt the new technology?
There’s a lot of potential here, but the industry needs to move quicker towards technological advancement, there is no doubt about it. The rest of the world is steaming ahead.

March/April, 2009 Illusions MICE

Illusions Online has taken its tour operator solution and adapted it to meet the demands of the meetings, conventions and exhibitions sectors, providing a B2C system to streamline all bookings and requests related to specific events.

Now, using Illusions MICE, PCO’s are able to create a dedicated B2C website for each event and encourage attendees to register online. Using the system, attendees for events, exhibitions and conferences can access the site, register for the event, book their hotels and any tours (taking advantage of group discounted rates), arrange for their meet and assist and then pay via the integrated payment gateway.

The software is programmed so that once a client is registered their history is kept on file for future events, meaning that they only have to enter vital information such as contact details once. This also enables the DMC or PCO to build up a comprehensive picture of their clients and their booking habits, which assists with event planning and business forecasts.

“Illusions MICE is a very flexible programme. It enables the user to decide what they are selling and to whom,” explained Faisal Memon, CEO, Illusions Online.

“It allows clients to use the same common platform – content, photos, company information – for each event. All that varies are the specifics for the event itself. The idea is very simple but powerful and effective when it comes to converting browsers into bookers.”

Illusions Online has been providing its tailored tour operator back office solutions for over 10 years and now boasts a network of clients spanning five continents.

Feb 23, 2009

With bookings are down, travel agents should switch to cloud computing technology, which works on a pay-as-you-book basis, according to Illusions CEO Faisal Memon. Cloud computing replaces applications, hardware and software traditionally used by travel agents, so that they can work online and are charged a licence fee. Memon explained that Cloud Computing is not a new concept worldwide but it is not widely recognised in this region’s developing industry.

“It’s just picking up in this part of the world and is suited to these times when companies need to cut back spending and don’t have the cash for large investments,” said Memon.

He said agents can benefit from the technology because it works on a pay-as-you-book basis and can work out cheaper for companies during the financial crisis.

Long-term, Memon claimed that the application is a securer option for agents and also means that companies do not need to worry about upgrading systems as online updates are automatic.

tour operator software illusions news page i icon  Illusions looks at the bigger picture
Feb 9, 2009

Arabian Travel News in an interview with Illusions CEO Faisal Memon about the company’s niche product and its strategy to attract more business from the region’s travel trade Travel operator business solutions specialist Illusions Online is looking to secure deals with top travel companies across the region having ended 2008 with a major coup.

The Dubai-based firm, which offers the tour operator system Travellusions to companies across the globe, recently signed a deal with Dubai’s Al Rais Travel, to provide all if its software solutions and help integrate its online offering.

To build on the momentum of this sign-up, Illusions CEO faisal Memon is on a mission to score more big names, but will be choosing his partners carefully, he told ATN.

“It’s both an advantage and a disadvantage for us that a lot of travel companies out here haven’t been prioritising the sort of online service solutions that we offer,” he mused.

“In the short term it’s been good because what we do is so specialised we have been able to create a specific niche in the market for ourselves — but the downside is that we really do have to be careful when it comes to who we align ourselves with.”

He continued: “It’s absolutely no use to us to partner with a company that thinks we can deliver a business solution like it’s a commodity. What we do is more complicated and time consuming than that — the benefits are enormous but we have to be sure that we are aligned with a company that we are satisfied we can deliver a solution that matches the levels of our own high standards.”

Memon conceded that initial consultation periods and business analysis with travel companies could be slow going, but was adamant that the practice was necessary. “It is not our way to implement a quick fix,” he stressed.

“Through us our clients will enjoy complete business automation that is also customisable. We don’t look at just one section, we build a platform structure for all aspects of the business; we can facilitate one system to cover the entire business from pricing, reservations, operations, bookings — the whole lot — so it can make a massive difference.”

Memon added that he expected increasing numbers of travel companies across the UAE to gradually embrace the idea of implementing technology solutions.

“Companies in this region will see the benefits eventually,” he said, “which is good for us of course because we are already established here. This means we will have the inside track and we can point interested parties in the travel industry to our track record so they can see our quality and what we are all about.”

He added that the agreement with Al Rais Travel was “a good indication” of the stage at which the travel market was at in terms of solutions uptake.
“As a company, they are becoming more technology and web savvy and they recognised the benefits of working with us and we’re really pleased to be aligned with them as well, because of their approach and understanding of how our partnership will work,” he said.

“If you just look at Dubai alone, you can see the speed that things change — and the travel industry is changing by the day.” He stressed that in the current financial climate, it would be the most forward-thinking companies that would do well. “We have a lot of negotiations going on behind the scenes and expect more announcements to be made soon, so it’s a case of watch this space,” Memon concluded.

Jan 7, 2009

Dubai-based travel company Al Rais Travel has signed an agreement with travel operator business solutions specialist company Illusions to provide all of its software solutions and help integrate its online offering.

“Al Rais is becoming more technology and web savvy,” said Illusions CEO Faisal Memon. “We’ve had dialogue for them for some time and it will be a privilege to help take them to the next level.” Memon admitted that the shift into embracing more advanced online options was “noticeably slower”, in the Middle East compared to other areas but commented that for a niche company like Illusions the situation had its advantages.

“We have to be very picky about who we align ourselves with,” he said. “Anyone can make a sale what we’re interested in is building partnership where we can genuinely provide a service, for that we need to be able to trust the company we are working with, it’s a very niche area that we work in and the standards that we set for achieving our goals are very high.”

Memon went on to hint that Illusion was in the process of negotiating with other “major” travel companies in the region and to expect further “exciting announcements” in the coming months.
